Hi, I'm John! I will help you with this.

When you sign in to your Microsoft account at https://account.microsoft.com/services does the subscription show as active there, or still unpaid?

If active, please try these steps if you haven’t already:

  • Make sure you're signed in with the same Microsoft account that the subscription is linked to.
  • Then, open Outlook 365 and any Office app (like Word or Excel), go to File > Account, and click "Update License" to refresh your license status.

If issue still persists:

Before installing, it’s a good idea to uninstall all existing versions of Office to avoid conflicts.

Here’s how:

  • Open the Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
  • Look for any version of Microsoft Office or Office apps, right-click, then choose Uninstall. Please uninstall all Office apps.
  • Once that’s done, restart your computer just to be safe.

Then, to reinstall Microsoft Office:

  • Go to https://account.microsoft.com/services
  • Sign in using the same Microsoft account linked to your license.
  • Find your Microsoft 365 Subscription and click the "Install".
  • That will download the installer for the Office apps, just run it and follow the steps.

If anything’s unclear or the "Install" option still doesn’t show, feel free to let me know. I’ll be happy to walk you through it!

I really hope this information is helpful! Let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

Regards,

John J.D.

The recurring “update billing” or subscription notice in Outlook desktop typically means Office is still seeing a problem with the Microsoft 365 subscription or its activation, even if the payment method has been updated and auto‑renew is on.

Use these steps to clear it:

    1. Confirm the subscription is active
      1. Close Outlook and all Office apps.
      2. Go to the Subscriptions page at https://account.microsoft.com/services.
      3. Sign in with the same Microsoft account used in Outlook.
      4. Under Microsoft 365, verify the status shows as active and not expired, suspended, or past due.
      5. If it shows expired or suspended, renew it following the steps in Renew Microsoft 365 Family (linked from the subscription page) and then reopen Outlook.
    2. Verify payment is not past due
      1. Go to the Payment options page at https://account.microsoft.com/billing/payments.
      2. Make sure the card or payment method has no error and there is no past‑due balance.
      3. If there is a past‑due subscription, select Pay now, update the payment method if needed, and complete the payment.
    3. Refresh the Office license in Outlook
      1. Open Outlook.
      2. Go to File → Account.
      3. Make sure the account shown there is the same Microsoft account that has the active subscription.
      4. Use the Update license or sign‑out/sign‑in option (if available) to force Outlook to pick up the updated subscription state.
    4. If the notice persists
      1. Run the Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant for Office activation issues from the Start link in the activation troubleshooter.
      2. Run it on the same Windows PC where Outlook is installed and follow the prompts.
      3. If that still does not clear the notice, deactivate Office on that device, uninstall using the Office “easy fix” tool, and reinstall Office, then sign in with the account that has the active subscription.

If the subscription is confirmed active, payment is current, and the correct account is signed in, these steps typically stop the recurring billing/update notices.
