Conversations involving multiple participants, allowing collaboration and information sharing in Teams
Dear @Patty Brauneisen,
I completely understand how frustrating that persistent unread badge can be when you’ve already checked everywhere. It is a known synchronization glitch in Microsoft Teams where the interface gets stuck displaying a ghost notification.
Here is how you can clear it.
- Mark all as read: Click on your Activity feed tab on the left. Click the three dots at the top of the feed panel and select Mark all as read.
- The filtering trick: Click the filter icon (three sliding lines) at the top of your Activity feed, click the three dots, and choose Unread. This forces Teams to surface hidden notifications, like an old, missed call or an app notification, which you can then click to clear.

If the badge stays, the local cache is stuck. Clearing it forces Teams to download fresh data from the server, which fixes the issue instantly.
For Teams app (Windows 11/10)
- Type settings in the search box, and then select the Settings app from the results.
- Select Apps > Installed apps and then type Microsoft Teams in the search box.
- Locate the New Microsoft Teams app from the results, select the More options button (...) on the right, and then select Advanced options.
- In the Reset section, select Reset.
- Restart Teams.

Note: If you are using Teams in a web browser, simply clearing your browser's cookies and cached images for https://teams.microsoft.com/ will achieve the same result.
According to official Microsoft deployment documentation, resetting the application cache does not delete your personal data or chat history; it simply forces the client to resynchronize your active notification state with the cloud server.
