I am being billed for both Microsoft 365 Basic ($19/yr) and Microsoft 365 personal ($99/yr). Do I need both, or just one?

You do not need two Subscriptions to Microsoft 365, the subscription you keep depends on your requirements.

1

Microsoft 365 Basic only entitles you to 100GB of OneDrive storage, it does not include installing the Office apps on your devices.

2

The Microsoft 365 Personal subscription entitles you to install the Office apps on your devices (5 devices logged into at the same time) and you also get 1TB of OneDrive storage.

3

Log into your Microsoft account on this link (https://account.microsoft.com/services/), if you find two separate subscriptions listed on your Microsoft account, to cancel the subscription you do not need, the steps are provided on this link:

Both subscriptions are not required; they serve different purposes and can be consolidated based on needs.

    Microsoft 365 Basic:

    • For one person.
    • Provides 100 GB of cloud storage across Outlook and OneDrive.
    • Includes ad‑free Outlook email, advanced OneDrive security features, and access to support experts.
    • Does not include desktop Office apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.); only web and mobile versions.

    Microsoft 365 Personal:

    • For one person.
    • Includes both web and full desktop apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook, etc.) with AI‑powered features.
    • Includes 1 TB of OneDrive cloud storage.
    • Includes technical support for Microsoft 365 benefits.

If desktop Office apps and 1 TB storage are needed, Microsoft 365 Personal alone typically covers those needs, making Microsoft 365 Basic redundant. If only extra storage/ad‑free Outlook were needed and desktop apps were not required, Basic alone could be enough.

To avoid paying twice for overlapping benefits, choose the single plan that matches requirements (usually Microsoft 365 Personal for most home users) and cancel the other subscription in the account’s Services & subscriptions page.
