    Hi Palumbo, Salvatore

Based on your description that you need to convert audio files to text - the feature you are looking for is called Transcribe.

You are absolutely right that this was available on your Dell laptop. On the Windows version of Word, the Transcribe feature is conveniently located in the dropdown menu under the "Dictate" button.

The reason you can't find it on your new MacBook Pro is that the Transcribe feature is not yet built into the Word for Mac desktop application. The "Dictate" button on the Mac app is only for converting your live speech to text as you talk, which is why it doesn't have a dropdown for uploading a file.

Dictate your documents in Word - Microsoft Support

Dictation lets you use speech-to-text to author content in Microsoft 365 with a microphone

Transcribe your recordings - Microsoft Support

The transcribe feature converts speech to a text transcript with each speaker individually separated.

Even though it’s not in the desktop app, you can still use this powerful feature on your Mac. Your Microsoft 365 Business account gives you full access to it through the web version of Word.

On your Mac, you can follow this guidance to use on Word for the web: Transcribe your recordings - Microsoft Support > roll down to see detailed steps

I hope this explanation makes things clearer and provides a helpful solution for you. If I have misunderstood your issue, please let me know in the comment section.

On Word for Mac, Dictate is available only when signed in with an active Microsoft 365 subscription and using a supported version of macOS/Office.

To restore the Dictate dropdown on the new MacBook Pro:

    1. Confirm sign-in and subscription
      • Open Word.
      • Go to Word > Sign In (or your account name) and ensure the account has an active Microsoft 365 subscription.
      • Dictate is not available in perpetual Office 2016/2019 without Microsoft 365.
    2. Check the Dictate button location
      • Open a document.
      • On the Home tab, look for Dictate (microphone icon). On Mac it appears as a single button; additional options may not show as a dropdown like on Windows.
      • Dictation requires a mic-enabled device and internet connection.
    3. Verify OS and app version
      • Ensure Word is updated via Help > Check for Updates (or Microsoft AutoUpdate).
      • Dictate requires a recent Office build and is supported only on newer OS versions (Windows 10+ on PCs; on Mac, current Microsoft 365 builds).
    4. If the Dictate button is missing entirely
      • Make sure the account is a Microsoft 365 subscriber and not using an older standalone Office license.
      • If still missing after confirming subscription and updates, sign out of Office, restart Word, then sign back in.

Note: The built-in Dictate feature in Word is designed for live speech-to-text using the microphone. Converting pre-recorded audio files to text is not described in the provided documentation for Word Dictate; Dictate expects live input from the selected microphone.
