Good Morning,

I have windows 11 and i've been using my Copilot to help me learn about different things which has been great. And i'm using its assistance to help in the corrections to the family tree i'm working on another great thing. For the past two days ,the Copilot has stopped working and or frozen. Can you please look into this for me and hopefully remedy this issue. Thank you.

    Hi monique rowland,

Thank you for sharing the details. I can understand how inconvenient this is, especially since Copilot was working normally before and has now started freezing or not responding over the past couple of days.

Please note that this is a public community forum, so I cannot directly inspect your device, account, or any back-end service from here. However, to help narrow this down, could you please let me know a few details?

    • When you open Copilot, what exactly happens? Does it fail to open, stay stuck loading, freeze after you type a prompt, or close unexpectedly?
    • Are you using the Copilot app in Windows, or Copilot in a browser such as Microsoft Edge?
    • Do you see any error message or code?
    • If possible, could you also share a screenshot of what appears when the issue happens?

At this point, I recommend that you review and try the steps provided in the AI generated answer on your thread. That reply typically include the most relevant checks for this scenario. In the meantime, please try these steps:

    • Go to Settings > Windows Update and install any pending updates, then restart.
    • Open Microsoft Store > Library > Get updates and make sure the Copilot app and Store components are fully updated.
    • Try signing out of Copilot and signing back in with your Microsoft account.
    • Test Copilot in a browser by opening copilot.microsoft.com.
    • If the Copilot app is installed on your PC, go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps > Copilot > Advanced options, then try Repair first. If that does not help, try Reset.

While my initial response may not fully resolve the issue, I truly appreciate your cooperation as we work together toward identifying the most effective solution. Thank you so much for your understanding.

Try the following steps in order on the Windows 11 device:

    1. Restart Copilot and Windows
      • Close all Copilot windows.
      • Restart the PC from Start > Power > Restart.
      • After restart, open Copilot again from the taskbar or Start menu and test if it responds.
    2. Run Copilot troubleshooters
      • Open the Get Help app (search for “Get Help” from Start).
      • In the search box, type Copilot connectivity troubleshooter and follow the steps. This checks for firewall or network blockers.
      • If Copilot is used inside Microsoft 365 apps (Word, etc.), also run Copilot License Troubleshooter in Get Help.
    3. Uninstall and reinstall the Copilot app
      • Go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
      • Search for Copilot.
      • Select the … (More options) next to Copilot and choose Uninstall.
      • After uninstall completes, open Microsoft Store, search for Copilot, and reinstall it from there.
    4. If Copilot is still frozen or not responding
      • Run the troubleshooters again to confirm there are no connectivity issues.
      • If the issue persists across restarts and reinstall, use Get Help to contact support directly from Windows and share that Copilot on Windows is freezing or not responding.

These steps address most cases where Copilot on Windows stops working or appears frozen.
