printing preferences

Question

I have my hp laptop connected to my RX1HS printer and it will not allow me to change the paper size. It is locked on A4 with no other options. I have this connected via USB. I have watched so many videos and nothing is helping.

Access the device manager, go to the USB controllers tab, take a screenshot and post it here.

can you try this options may be helpful to you. suppose you don't have admin rights its not possible.

goto controlpanel->devices and printers->select your printer->right click goto printing preferences. check paper size and select your paper size.

On Windows 11, the paper size list and default are controlled by the printer driver and printer defaults. When only A4 is available and cannot be changed, it is typically due to:

1. The printer/driver default paper size being set to A4.
2. A driver or configuration issue that locks the media size.

To fix this, use these steps that are supported in the provided context:

1. Remove and reinstall the printer so Windows refreshes the driver and settings:
   • Select Start → Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners.
   • Select the RX1HS printer → Remove device.
   • Unplug the USB cable from the PC.
   • Plug the USB cable back into an available USB port on the PC and turn the printer on.
   • Go back to Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners and let Windows detect and add the printer again.
2. If the queue is blocked or media type/size defaults are wrong, set the default media in Printing preferences:
   • Open Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners.
   • Select the RX1HS printer.
   • Select Printing preferences.
   • Go to the Paper/Quality tab.
   • Under Media, set the default to the correct option (for example, Plain Paper) and confirm the paper size if the driver exposes it.
3. If the printer still will not allow changing from A4, uninstall again and install the latest RX1HS driver directly from the printer manufacturer, then repeat step 2 to set Printing preferences.

If the issue persists specifically with default paper size on a Universal Print or IPP-style queue, check the Windows version and printer type (Universal Print Ready, Connector, or pull-print) and adjust defaults as described in the Universal Print known issues article, including using the appropriate default paper size setting or script where applicable.
