Hello there,

I've got a problem with Outlook from Office 2024 Pro Plus/365:

When configuring a Gmail account, Outlook uses IE (in 2026!) to validate the account login and fails.

Trying to configure Exchange account in control panel or changing the default browser does not help.

To by pass it an expert Microsoft technician let me use Outlook (new) from Windows 10 and it worked.

Now the second problem come out:

I've to use Word/Excel/Outlook (new) to send mailmerge, but the procedure uses Outlook (classic) from Office to send the emails and it doesn't work.

Any idea how could I force the use of Outlook (new) in Office mailmerge or Edge (or Chrome) in Outlook (classic)?

Thanks in advance

    Hi @Franco-R

I understand how important the mail merge feature in your workflow. At this time, Mail Merge in Word depends on MAPI integration, which is only available in the classic Outlook for Windows. The New Outlook does not currently support this feature, so when you start a Mail Merge, Word will attempt to open Outlook (classic). This is expected behavior.

According to the Microsoft 365 Roadmap, a preview version of Mail Merge support in the New Outlook for Windows is currently scheduled to be added in September 2026.

Meanwhile, you also mentioned you cannot add a Gmail account, what does the error show?

You mentioned it used IE instead of your default browser, have you tried Repair an Office application - Microsoft Support (Choose Repair Online) and reinstall Classic Outlook?

I look forward for your reply.
