    Welcome philip connelly,

I understand how frustrating it can be when ripping music in Windows Media Player, the album information is not being retrieved or displayed.

Before proceeding, I would like to clarify a couple of points:

    • Are you using Windows Media Player legacy (classic) or the newer Media Player app on Windows 11?
    • Does this issue happen with all CDs or only specific albums?

In addition to Q&A Assist's suggested steps, please try these extra checks to move forward:

Option 1: Verify Internet access during ripping

    • Ensure the PC is connected to the Internet
    • Try opening a website to confirm connectivity

Option 2: Refresh media library information

    • Close Windows Media Player
    • Reopen it and press F3 to rebuild the media library

I hope the steps above help you deal with your issue.

Ensure the PC is connected to the Internet when ripping so Windows Media Player can retrieve album and track information automatically.

Then try updating the album info after ripping:

    1. Open Windows Media Player.
    2. In the Player Library, search for the album or song that has missing info.
    3. Right‑click the album and select Find album info.
    4. If the correct album appears, select it and follow the on‑screen instructions to update album art and media info.
    5. If it does not appear, follow the page instructions to search again with different criteria or manually add the media info.

If an error appears saying privacy settings must be changed:

    1. In Windows Media Player, select Organize > Options.
    2. Go to the Privacy tab.
    3. Select Update music files by retrieving media info from the Internet.
    4. Select OK, then try Find album info again.

If album art still does not display, it may be unavailable for download or in an unsupported file format.
