    Welcome Sean Clark,

I understand how frustrating it can be when you are able to print to your HP all‑in‑one printer over Wi‑Fi, but scanning to your Windows computer is not working.

Before we continue, I would like to clarify a couple of points:

    • Are you trying to scan using the Windows Scan app or from the printer’s panel (scan to PC)?
    • Do you have the HP Smart app or full feature HP software installed on the computer?

In addition to Q&A Assist's suggested steps, please try these extra checks to move forward:

Option 1: Check if Windows Scan app can detect the scanner

    • Open Microsoft Store
    • Search for Windows Scan and install it if not already
    • Open the app and check if your HP scanner appears

Option 2: Verify Windows services required for scanning

    • Press Windows + R, type services.msc
    • Find Windows Image Acquisition (WIA)
    • Ensure it is running and set to Automatic

Option 3: Check network discovery and firewall

    • Open Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center
    • Turn on Network discovery and File and printer sharing
    • Temporarily disable third‑party firewall or antivirus and test scanning

    Option 4: Restart network components

    • Turn off the printer and unplug it for 1 minute
    • Restart your router
    • Turn the printer back on and reconnect it to Wi‑Fi

I hope the steps above help you deal with your issue.

Since printing works and both devices are on the same Wi‑Fi, the issue is likely with how the scanner part is installed or detected in Windows.

Try these steps on the Windows PC:

    1. Confirm Windows sees the device as a scanner
      1. Select Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
Or use this shortcut if available: Open Bluetooth & Devices > Printers & scanners.
      2. Select the HP printer in the list.
      3. In the window that opens, look for Scanner settings (or, on some versions, use the drop‑down and look for an entry prefixed with Scanner:).
        • If a scanner entry exists, Windows recognizes the scanner. Use Open scanner or your scanning app (e.g., Windows Fax and Scan) to scan.
        • If no scanner entry exists, continue with the next steps.
    2. Re‑add the device so Windows installs the scanner
      1. In Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners, select the HP printer and choose Remove (or Remove device) and confirm.
      2. Make sure the printer is powered on and connected to the same Wi‑Fi/SSID as the PC (check the printer’s wireless status menu if needed).
      3. Back in Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners, select Add device next to Add printer or scanner.
      4. Wait while Windows searches for devices, then select Add device next to the HP printer/scanner when it appears.
      5. After installation completes, select the device again and confirm that Scanner settings (or a Scanner: entry) is now available.
    3. If the scanner still is not detected
      1. In Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners, select Add device again.
      2. Choose The printer that I want isn’t listed / Add a new device manually if shown, and follow the wizard to add the network device manually.
      3. Ensure both PC and printer are on the same wireless network/SSID; if there are multiple Wi‑Fi names, connect both to the same one.
      4. If the HP is an all‑in‑one, confirm from HP’s documentation or website that the full printer/scanner software is installed, not just a basic print driver.

Once Windows shows the HP as a scanner, use either Scanner settings from the device page or a scanning app (like Windows Fax and Scan or HP’s own app) to scan to the computer.
