Hello, thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A.

Open an incognito tab and sign in with your Microsoft account here -

    https://outlook.live.com/

Go to Settings > Accounts > Storage.

Expand the 'Microsoft Storage' and 'Email Storage' Sections.

Ensure you have enough storage space.

    Note-

If you have recently upgraded your storage due to it being full, your account may be in a frozen state. After upgrading, it usually takes up to 24 hours for the storage to sync across all devices where you’re signed in.

If you’re still experiencing issues after 24 hours, right-click the OneDrive icon in the taskbar, go to Settings > Accounts, and sign out of your account.

Then, sign in again. See if your storage is being synced.

Alerts about low storage can continue for a while even after upgrading storage or freeing space because the quota status needs time to update across services.

For Microsoft cloud storage (OneDrive/Microsoft storage):

    1. If storage was recently upgraded or files were deleted, it can take up to 24–48 hours for the new quota and usage to fully update.
    2. During this period, Outlook.com, OneDrive, and other services may still show “storage full” or send reminder emails even though usage is now under the limit.
    3. If OneDrive shows as full but usage is clearly below the quota, wait up to 48 hours, then:
      • Unlink and re-link the OneDrive account, or
      • Reset/restart the OneDrive app, and sign out/in again.
    4. If the account previously exceeded the unified Microsoft storage quota, Outlook.com email and OneDrive may have been blocked; once back under quota, normal behavior resumes but notifications may lag.

For Windows device storage (disk space for updates):

    1. Windows updates require extra temporary disk space to download and apply updates. Even if the drive looks like it has enough space, Windows may still report low space during updates if it cannot reserve the required temporary space.
    2. Use Start > Settings > System > Storage (Windows 10/11) and run cleanup (e.g., Cleanup recommendations or similar) to remove temporary files.
    3. If still seeing low-space warnings for Windows Update, connect an external drive (USB/SD) with at least 10 GB free and use the Fix issues option in Settings > Windows Update to complete the update using external storage.

If alerts continue more than 48 hours after freeing space or upgrading storage, verify which account and which service (OneDrive, Outlook.com, Windows disk, or another device/account) the alert refers to; older or secondary accounts can still be over quota even if the current main account is not.
