    Hi Tony Delph,

I understand the Settings page closing when you try to open “Microphone” permissions can be frustrating, especially when it prevents you from managing app access.

Have you already tried the Q&A Assist suggestions? In addition, could you confirm:

    • Does the crash happen only with Microphone, or also with other permission pages (like Camera or Location)?
    • Did this start after a recent update or software installation?

In the meantime, here are a few additional steps you can try:

1, Repair or reset the Settings app

    • Press Windows + X > select “Installed apps”
    • Find “Settings” > click “Advanced options”
    • Try “Repair” first, then “Reset” (this won’t remove your data but will reset app settings)

    2, Run System File Checker

    • Right‑click Start > choose “Windows Terminal (Admin)”
    • Run: sfc /scannow
    • Wait for it to complete, then restart your PC

    3, Re-register Windows apps

In the same admin terminal, run: Get-AppxPackage *windows.immersivecontrolpanel* | Reset-AppxPackage

This behavior usually means the Settings app is crashing when opening the Microphone permissions page. Since app permissions themselves are controlled from that page, the immediate workaround is to bypass the normal navigation and then verify microphone access once Settings is stable.

    Try these steps in order:

    1. Open the Microphone privacy page directly
      • Press Windows + R.
      • Type:
             ms-settings:privacy-microphone

      • Press Enter.
      • If the page opens and stays open, make sure:
        • Microphone access is turned On.
        • Let apps access your microphone is turned On.
        • Under Choose which apps can access your microphone, turn On the apps that need it.
        • If using desktop apps (Teams, Zoom, etc.), ensure Let desktop apps access your microphone is turned On.
    2. Check general microphone privacy settings (alternate path)
      • Select Start > Settings > Privacy & security.
      • Under App permissions, select Microphone.
      • Confirm the same toggles as above are On.
    3. Verify microphone access for apps
      • If the microphone still does not work in a specific app after the page opens:
        • Scroll down under Let apps access your microphone and ensure the toggle for that app is On.
        • For desktop apps, confirm Let desktop apps access your microphone is On.
    4. If Settings continues to crash only on Microphone
      • Run through the microphone troubleshooter path to ensure permissions are correct:
        • Select Start > Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone.
        • Confirm Microphone access and Let apps access your microphone are On.
      • If the crash persists, test microphone access from another account on the same PC to see if the issue is profile-specific.

Once the Microphone page stays open and the toggles are enabled, app permissions for the microphone should function normally.
