    Dear @William George,

I would be happy to help you with linking your files and folders to sales and purchase documents in Dynamics 365 Business Central.

By default, the Attachments feature in Business Central is designed for uploading individual files (like PDFs or Word docs) directly to the Microsoft cloud database. It does not natively support linking to a local or network folder path (like your S:\ drive) because Business Central is a cloud-based application and cannot access your local network security pathing directly.

Solution 1: Use the "Links" Feature

If possible, instead of using the attachment function, try sharing a link from the file to save the URL path.

    User's image

Note: Because of modern browser security, clicking a file:/// link might be blocked by default. You or your IT administrator may need to install a browser extension (like "Local Links" for Chrome/Edge) to allow the browser to open local S: drive paths.

Please refer to this document: Add attachments, links, and notes on records - Business Central | Microsoft Learn

Solution 2: The Recommended Cloud Approach (SharePoint/OneDrive)

Microsoft officially recommends moving away from network drives (S:) and using SharePoint Online or OneDrive for Business for document storage.

Business Central has a native, out-of-the-box integration with OneDrive:

    1. Upload your folder to OneDrive or SharePoint.
    2. Copy the Share Link to that folder.
    3. In Business Central, go to your document > FactBox > Links > New.
    4. Paste the SharePoint/OneDrive URL.

This requires zero browser workarounds and allows anyone with permissions to view the folder instantly, even outside the office.

If your business heavily relies on linking complex local/network folder structures to Business Central documents, I highly recommend looking at the Microsoft AppSource marketplace. There are certified partner add-ons (such as Document Management apps by various vendors) specifically built to seamlessly map local file shares to BC records.

Because our current forum primarily supports Microsoft 365 products, and your issue specifically relates to Dynamics, we recommend you post your question in the Dynamics Community Forum Thread to receive support from experts. The reason I'm asking you to post a new thread is that in the Q&A forum, we have limited resources and very little knowledge about Dynamics, whereas in the Microsoft Dynamics Platform Community Forum Thread, you'll receive support from the most highly qualified team of experts, and other partners who regularly read the forum can share their knowledge or learn from your interactions.

The reason for this redirection is to ensure you receive the highest quality support and avoid any misinformation. Members of that forum, including Microsoft experts and partners, regularly share best practices and solutions for cases like yours.

I hope this clarifies the situation. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Please let me know how it goes after trying the steps above. I’m here to help further if needed.
