Hi,

As of a few days ago I have been unable to access my OneDrive files. I have tried two different computers, online and through the app. I have received Error Code: 8004deed via the app. Online I can log in but cannot view any files - the "My files" folder is completely a blank page, and along the top it says Offline mode isn't turned on, so some functionality may not be available. Please help. I've tried uninstalling, and reinstalling the app. I've tried deleting the KeyAccess Chain on the Macbook and restarting the computer. But still no luck.

    Hi, Lifeway Church

Since it fails on two computers and also shows a blank My files page online, this may not be a normal Mac app reinstall problem. The “Offline mode isn’t turned on” banner can also appear when OneDrive for web is being blocked by the browser, an extension, or the account’s OneDrive profile not loading correctly.

Here are some suggestions you can try:

First, test OneDrive in Microsoft Edge or Chrome with all extensions disabled, especially ad blockers, privacy blockers, script blockers, VPN browser extensions, or built-in browser shields. It is recommended that you try this because there are cases where OneDrive web loads blank or shows the offline mode message when an ad blocker interferes with the page.

On the Mac app, try a proper OneDrive reset instead of another reinstall: quit OneDrive, open Applications, right-select OneDrive, choose Show Package Contents, then open Contents > Resources and run ResetOneDriveApp.command or ResetOneDriveAppStandalone.command. Resetting OneDrive does not delete your cloud files, but it does reset the sync connection, so choose the same OneDrive folder location when setting it up again.

If this is a personal Microsoft account, another workaround worth trying is adding a new sign-in alias to the Microsoft account, then signing in to OneDrive with that alias.

If none of those change anything, I would contact Microsoft support and say clearly: “OneDrive web My files is blank on multiple devices, and the Mac app gives error 8004deed.” That wording helps show it is likely account-side, not just a local Mac issue.

Error code 0x8004deed is not covered in the available documentation. However, similar OneDrive sign-in and access issues are often caused by account, licensing, or credential problems.

Based on the available information, try these checks and steps:

    1. Verify account and license
    • Confirm that the same Microsoft account is used on both the Mac app and the web.
    • If this is a work or school account, contact the organization’s IT admin to confirm that:
      • The account still has an active OneDrive/SharePoint license.
      • The account is not blocked and has access to OneDrive.
    1. Check for known sign-in issues and updates (Windows scenario reference)
    • Similar issues where OneDrive reports connectivity or sign-in problems have been fixed by installing specific Windows updates (for example, KB5085516 addressed Microsoft account sign-in issues caused by another update). On Windows devices, check Settings → Windows Update and install any pending updates that mention fixing Microsoft account sign-in.
    1. Clear cached credentials (Mac)
    • On Mac, remove cached OneDrive credentials:
      1. Open Spotlight and search for “Keychain Access”, then open it.
      2. Search for “OneDrive”.
      3. Delete “OneDrive Cached Credential”.
      4. Restart OneDrive and sign in again.
    1. Reinstall OneDrive from Microsoft (Mac)
    • If OneDrive was installed from the Mac App Store and fails after an update, uninstall it and reinstall from the Microsoft download instead, as this has resolved launch issues for some users.
    1. Check service health and web access
    • Since the web view shows a blank “My files” page, verify whether OneDrive works from another network (for example, a mobile hotspot) and another browser or a private/incognito window.
    • If OneDrive works in another environment, the issue may be related to the current network or local browser cache; clear cache and cookies and try again.

If the account is managed by an organization and the problem persists across devices and networks, escalate to the organization’s IT admin or Microsoft support, as this may indicate an account-level or service-side issue rather than a local client problem.
