On Windows 10, the LifeCam (camera and built‑in microphone) is used through apps rather than opened by itself.
To use the camera (video/picture):
- Open the Windows Camera app:
- Right‑click Start and select Search.
- In Type here to search, type
camera.
- Under Best match, select the Camera app.
- If there is more than one camera, switch to the LifeCam:
- In the Camera app, select the Change camera icon at the top right until the LifeCam view appears.
- Use the on‑screen buttons to take photos or record video.
To use the LifeCam microphone:
- Make sure apps are allowed to use the microphone:
- Select Start > Settings > Privacy > Microphone.
- Select Change, and turn on Allow apps to access your microphone.
- Under Choose which Microsoft Store apps can access your microphone, turn on access for any app to be used (for example, Camera, Voice Recorder, or calling apps).
- Ensure Allow desktop apps to access your microphone is turned On so desktop programs (like Teams, Zoom, etc.) can use the LifeCam microphone.
- If the LifeCam has a built‑in microphone, also allow camera access if prompted:
- Select Start > Settings > Privacy > Camera.
- Turn on Camera access for this device and Allow apps to access your camera.
To test that the microphone is working:
- Select Start > Settings > System > Sound.
- Under Input, choose the LifeCam microphone in Choose your input device.
- Speak into the LifeCam; under Test your microphone, confirm the level bar moves.
Once these are set, open any app that uses a camera or microphone (Camera app, Teams, Skype, etc.), and select the LifeCam as the camera and microphone inside that app’s settings if needed.
