Hi.

I had previously used a different personal email Microsoft Account to get the Workplace Discount. I have since then started to use another personal email Microsoft Account for all things Microsoft. I switched over my 365 applications. But I am unable to get the Workplace Discount.

I removed any reference to my work email address from the original account and even deleted it so Micorsoft doesn't recognize it as a valid account. But still the Workplace discount seems to see it.

I want to use my current personal account to get the discount from my employment.

I checked with my employer they do not control the sign up so they dont have anything linked back to Microsoft.

Dear @chris rheinherren,

I understand how frustrating it is to be locked out of your Workplace Discount Program (formerly Home Use Program) benefit after switching your personal Microsoft accounts.

The core issue here is that Microsoft’s system permanently maps your corporate eligibility token to the first personal Microsoft account you used to redeem the discount. Even though you removed your work email and closed the old personal account, that backend link remains active in Microsoft's billing system, preventing your work email from being verified on a new account. At this time, the Workplace Discount Program only allows one primary account holder per eligible membership. This means the subscription benefits are tied to the account originally used to sign up.

To resolve this and get your discount applied to your current personal account, please follow these steps:

Because your employer doesn't manage the sign-up portal, this must be unlinked manually by Microsoft's accounts and billing team.

When you connect with an agent, explain the situation clearly so they can route your request correctly: "I am trying to use the Microsoft Workplace Discount Program. My corporate email is eligible, but it is tied to an old, deleted personal Microsoft account. I need you to manually clear the corporate email association from the old account token so I can re-verify it on my new personal account."

Once the agent clears the backend association, you will be able to go to the official Microsoft Workplace Discount Program (formerly Home Use Program) - Microsoft Store portal, enter your work email, and successfully bind the discount to your current personal account.

Please let me know if you encounter any issues contacting the team!
