    Hi Rob Barker,

I understand you started seeing code 0x80070057 in Classic Outlook after disconnecting the PC, and Outlook can no longer send or receive mail. Please note that this is a user-to-user forum, so contributors here cannot access your mailbox or check your device directly, but the steps below should help narrow down whether this is a local Outlook connection/profile issue.

Please try these steps in order:

    1. First, check whether Outlook is offline. In Classic Outlook, look at the bottom status bar. If it says Working Offline, Disconnected, or Trying to connect, go to the Send / Receive tab and select Work Offline once to reconnect. You can refer to this Microsoft guide: How to work offline in Outlook for Windows | Microsoft Support
    2. Open your email in a web browser, such as Outlook.com or your email provider’s webmail page, and test whether you can send and receive there. If webmail works, the issue is likely with the local Outlook app/profile rather than the mailbox itself.
    3. In Outlook, go to File > Account Settings > Account Settings, select the affected account, then choose Repair if the option is available. Restart Outlook afterward and test Send/Receive again. Microsoft’s related guide is here: Fix your Outlook email connection by repairing your profile
    4. If the issue continues, create a new Outlook profile: close Outlook, open Control Panel > Mail > Show Profiles > Add, add your email account, then set the new profile as the default and reopen Outlook. This often resolves local profile damage after an unexpected interruption. Please back up any local PST data first if you use POP or local archive files.

If it still does not work, please share what type of account you use in Outlook, such as Outlook.com, Gmail, Yahoo, ISP mail, POP, IMAP, or Exchange, and whether sending/receiving works from webmail. This will help identify the next best step.

Note: Please follow the steps in our documentation to enable e-mail notifications if you want to receive the related email notification for this thread.
