I am trying to install Microsoft Project 2019, from my school's Azure site, to complete some school assignment. The program will begin to install but after a few minutes I receive Error Code 30038-25. I typically do not have any issues with installing software but I cannot get this program to install on my laptop. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to resolve this error code?

Dear @Sartain,Preston,

I understand how frustrating it can be to encounter installation errors, especially when you need the software for a school assignment. I am happy to help you resolve this.

Error Code 30038-25 usually points to a conflict with existing Office installation files on your laptop, or a bitness mismatch (e.g., trying to install a 64-bit version of Project when you already have 32-bit Office apps installed).

Please follow these steps in order to resolve the issue:

Step 1: Completely Remove Leftover Office/Project Files

Sometimes standard uninstalls leave behind corrupted cached data.

  1. Download the official Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant (SaRA) tool from the official Microsoft documentation: Uninstall Microsoft 365 or Office from a PC | Microsoft Support
  2. Run the tool and select Uninstall Office. This will safely wipe any broken or hidden deployment files without touching your personal documents.
  3. Restart your laptop.

Step 2: Check for Architecture Mismatch (Bitness)

Microsoft does not allow the mixing of 32-bit and 64-bit architecture on the same device.

  1. Open any existing Office application you have (like Word or Excel).
  2. Go to File > Account > About Word.
  3. Note whether it says 32-bit or 64-bit.
  4. When you redownload Project 2019 from your school's Azure portal, ensure you select the exact same bit version to match your existing Office apps.

Step 3: Run the Installer as Administrator

  1. Locate the downloaded Project 2019 installer file (.exe or mounted .img/.iso drive).
  2. Right-click the setup file and select Run as administrator.

If you continue to experience issues after following these steps, please let me know what version of Office you currently have installed, and we can troubleshoot further.
