    Hi Mathis Jolicoeur,

Since your connection occasionally reaches around 900 Mbps, the Ethernet adapter is likely capable of gigabit speeds. The fluctuation to 200 Mbps may indicate the connection is periodically negotiating a lower speed or entering a power-saving state.

You can try the following quick checks:

    1, Disable Ethernet power saving

    • Open Device Manager > Network adapters
    • Right-click your Ethernet adapter > Properties
    • Under Power Management, uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power

2, Check the current link speed

    • Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Ethernet
    • Select Hardware properties
    • Verify whether the Link speed consistently shows 1.0 Gbps

3, Install the latest LAN driver from HP

    • Download the Ethernet driver specifically for your Victus model from HP Support and install it.
    • Restart the PC after installation.

If the link speed drops below 1.0 Gbps at times, testing with a different Ethernet cable or a different router/switch port can help determine whether the issue is related to the physical connection rather than Windows itself.

I hope this helps point you in the right direction. Let me know if you need further assistance, feel free to ask me by clicking "Add Comment" or "Add Answer" if you cannot add comment so your response will be visible. Thanks for your effort.

    Hi Mathis Jolicoeur,

Thanks for posting your question here. This issue can happen if the wire is loose or damaged.

To check and pinpoint the issue, can you tell me these:

    • Does the cable wiggle or feel loose when plugged into your laptop?
    • Do you have another cable you can test with right now?

Here are the things you can try:

    1. Unplug both ends of the cable (from the laptop and the router), blow into the ports to clear any dust, and plug them back in firmly until they click.
    2. Try a Different Router Port: Plug the cable into a different LAN port on the back of the internet router, as one specific port might be loose or faulty.
    3. Reboot the Laptop and Router: Restarting both devices forces them to clear errors and try to establish a fresh, fast 1 Gbps connection from scratch.

Let me know if you have questions, I am here to help.
