Dear Microsoft Support,

I am writing regarding an issue with my Microsoft account that started in January 2026.

Account details:

  • Visible email: [[Moderator Note: Personal Info Removed]@hotmail.com]
  • Primary email: [[Moderator Note: Personal Info Removed]@outlook.com] (this address still works and receives emails but it doesn't show in https://account.live.com/names/manage)

Problem description: In January, when I purchased a new Mac Mini and signed in with [[Moderator Note: Personal Info Removed]@outlook.com], I experienced a multi-day problem accessing my email properly. Since then, the account is showing and behaving as [[Moderator Note: Personal Info Removed]@hotmail.com].

The @outlook.com alias:

  • Does not appear in the list of aliases on the page "Manage how you sign in to Microsoft".
  • Cannot be set as Primary alias because it is not listed.
  • Still fully functional (I can receive and send emails to/from it).

I would like to make [[Moderator Note: Personal Info Removed]@outlook.com] the primary alias (or at least have it properly listed) so that it appears correctly on my Mac Mail app and other Microsoft devices.

Could you please help me restore visibility of the @outlook.com alias in my account settings or explain how to resolve this?

Thank you for your assistance.

Best regards,

[Moderator Note: Personal Info Removed]

    Hi Alejandro Mir,

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

Please note that our forum is a public platform, and we will modify your question to hide your personal information in the description. Kindly ensure that you hide any personal or organizational information the next time you post an error or other details to protect personal data.

I understand that this issue started around January 2026 after you purchased a new Mac Mini and signed in with your @outlook.com address. Since then, your account appears to show and behave as the @hotmail.com address, while the @outlook.com address still works for sending and receiving emails.

If the @outlook.com address does not appear under Manage how you sign in to Microsoft, you would not be able to set it as the primary alias from your side because only listed aliases can be managed there.

Please also avoid removing any existing Microsoft email alias, as Microsoft aliases such as @outlook.com, @hotmail.com, @live.com, or @msn.com generally cannot be added back manually once removed.

Since the @outlook.com address is still functional but missing from the alias management page, this may need to be reviewed from the Microsoft account side.

Please note that this is a user-to-user support forum. Moderators, contributors including external Microsoft employees cannot directly intervene in Microsoft product features or access back-end systems. Our role is limited to providing technical guidance on reported issues, requests, or ideas only.

In this case, I recommend contacting Microsoft Support and explaining that your @outlook.com address still sends and receives emails, but it is missing from the Manage how you sign in to Microsoft page and cannot be set as the primary alias. You may also provide screenshots of the alias page and how the account appears on your Mac Mail app or Microsoft devices, but please make sure to hide any personal information before sharing them.

    • Go to Contact Us: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/contactus
    • Click Show expanded list of products
    • Select Outlook > Get Home support
    • Type Outlook live chat in the search box, then select Get Help > Contact Support
    • If you can’t sign in to the affected account, sign in with a different Microsoft account to access support options
    • Under Products & Services, select Other Products > Outlook, then choose Chat with a support agent via web browser

Once the @outlook.com alias appears correctly again, you should be able to set it as the primary alias from the same page.
