365 Admin Console - Email Forwarding Bug

We are finding that when we set a forward from the 365 Admin Console it takes immediately.

When we disable a forward from the 365 Admin Console there is no error, the slider is disabled, yet the user continues to receive forwarded emails.

We have to use a powershell script to actually disable it.

This happens more often then not.

Why?

I found this, but we don't get this error and I show no fix was mentioned on this Learn article.

    Dear @Lisa Alaimo,

Based on your description, I understand that enabling email forwarding from the Microsoft 365 Admin Center takes effect immediately, while disabling forwarding appears to be successful in the Admin Center UI, but emails continue to be forwarded until the setting is removed via PowerShell.

Please note that changes made through the Microsoft 365 Admin Center may not always take effect immediately across the service. While enabling forwarding is often reflected quickly, disabling forwarding can require additional time for replication and propagation throughout Exchange Online. To rule out a synchronization delay, please allow up to 24 hours after disabling the forwarding setting and then test again.

To further investigate, could you please run a Message Trace for a recently delivered message?

    User's image

    • Enter sender and the recipient. Select an appropriate time range (e.g., last 7 days) and click Search The results will indicate whether the message was delivered, blocked, redirected, or quarantined.

If the message trace confirms that messages are still being forwarded, please use PowerShell to verify and disable the forwarding configuration, then share the results with me. You may refer to the following Microsoft Learn article for the relevant PowerShell commands and guidance: Disable-TransportRule (Exchange PowerShell) | Microsoft Learn

Please feel free to reply below if you have any update. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Hope you having a nice day and really much warm regards to you as well.

I look forward to your update!
