Microsoft Teams Windows App: Unable to View Older Chats

Hello,

Recently, I experienced an issue with the Microsoft Teams desktop application on Windows. I was unable to access older messages in chats with other users. The issue did not occur in the Teams web application, where all messages were visible.

At the moment, the problem seems to be resolved, and everything is working correctly in my Teams desktop app.

However, I have now noticed the same issue affecting another user's chat history. Is there a known fix or recommended troubleshooting steps to resolve this problem if it occurs again?

Best regards

Maksymilian

Hello @Maksymilian Zaczek,

Thank you for reporting this issue. I understand how frustrating it can be when older chat messages suddenly become unavailable, especially when you rely on them for ongoing work and communication.

There was a known issue affecting chat history in the Teams Desktop client around the beginning of July, which appears to match the issue you experienced. Following investigation and remediation efforts by the engineering team, the issue was resolved previously.

The root cause was identified as a client-side data synchronization and rendering issue within the Teams desktop application. The Teams service itself remained healthy throughout the incident, and other clients, such as Teams on the web, were not impacted.

Based on this, it is likely that the behavior you encountered was related to this known issue, which has since been fixed.

If the problem occurs again, I recommend trying the following steps first:

User's image

These steps can help refresh the local data and resolve synchronization issues that may affect chat history visibility.

If the issue continues after completing these steps, I recommend collecting Teams diagnostic logs and contacting Microsoft Support for further investigation. Providing the logs will help the support team determine whether the problem is related to a local client synchronization issue or another underlying cause.
