Additional chat-related features and issues within Microsoft Teams for business
Hello @Maksymilian Zaczek,
Thank you for reporting this issue. I understand how frustrating it can be when older chat messages suddenly become unavailable, especially when you rely on them for ongoing work and communication.
There was a known issue affecting chat history in the Teams Desktop client around the beginning of July, which appears to match the issue you experienced. Following investigation and remediation efforts by the engineering team, the issue was resolved previously.
The root cause was identified as a client-side data synchronization and rendering issue within the Teams desktop application. The Teams service itself remained healthy throughout the incident, and other clients, such as Teams on the web, were not impacted.
Based on this, it is likely that the behavior you encountered was related to this known issue, which has since been fixed.
If the problem occurs again, I recommend trying the following steps first:
- Make sure Teams is updated to the latest available version: Update Microsoft Teams | Microsoft Support
- Sign out of Teams completely, then sign back in.
- Clear the Teams cache and restart the application: Clear the Teams client cache - Microsoft Teams | Microsoft Learn
These steps can help refresh the local data and resolve synchronization issues that may affect chat history visibility.
If the issue continues after completing these steps, I recommend collecting Teams diagnostic logs and contacting Microsoft Support for further investigation. Providing the logs will help the support team determine whether the problem is related to a local client synchronization issue or another underlying cause.
For business support:
- Collect Teams diagnostic logs: To help Microsoft troubleshoot the issue, affected users should first collect Teams logs from their device. If multiple users are affected, logs from 2–3 impacted users are usually sufficient: Collect log files for monitoring and troubleshooting in Teams - Microsoft Teams | Microsoft Learn
- Find your Microsoft 365 admin: If you don't know who the global admin is in your organization, you can find guidance here: How can I find my Microsoft 365 admin? - Microsoft Support
- Submit a service request: The Global Administrator should create a support request with Microsoft to receive advanced technical assistance. For detailed instructions, see: Get support - Microsoft 365 admin | Microsoft Learn
- If your subscription is from a partner or reseller, contact the reseller's support provider to help open a service request on behalf of you instead.

I sincerely apologize for redirecting you to the Microsoft Technical Support Team. While I strive to assist as much as possible here in the forum, my resources are limited when it comes to backend-level diagnostics and advanced troubleshooting.
Thank you, and please let me know if you need any further assistance.
