Excel calculation function lags the worksheet

Screenshot 2026-07-17 171258 I have a file which is about 500kb in size, not too big, and whenever it's doing auto calculation, the worksheet becomes unresponsive. I have to turn it to manual to make it work. I have cleared office cache and re-installed office but the issue persist. Is there anything else I can do?

Which version of Excel are you using (Excel for desktop, Excel for the web, and the version/build number)?
Does the issue occur only with this specific workbook, or does it happen with other workbooks as well?
Approximately how many worksheets, formulas, and rows/columns are contained in the file?
Are there any complex formulas in the workbook, such as VLOOKUP, XLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH, SUMPRODUCT, array formulas, or volatile functions like OFFSET, INDIRECT, TODAY, NOW, RAND, or RANDBETWEEN?
Does the workbook contain external links, Power Query connections, PivotTables, or VBA macros?
Is the workbook stored locally on your device, or is it located on OneDrive, SharePoint, or a network drive?
Does the issue affect other users who open the same workbook, or only your account/device?
In addition, could you let us know whether the workbook was recently modified before the problem started (for example, new formulas, data imports, macros, or additional worksheets)?

If possible, please also share a screenshot of the workbook structure (sheet tabs and formula examples) while removing any sensitive information. This will help us narrow down the root cause and provide more targeted troubleshooting steps.

Only with this specific workbook.

1 woeksheet, no formula, 4608 rows of data

Are there any complex formulas in the workbook, such as VLOOKUP, XLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH, SUMPRODUCT, array formulas, or volatile functions like OFFSET, INDIRECT, TODAY, NOW, RAND, or RANDBETWEEN?

No there aren't

Does the workbook contain external links, Power Query connections, PivotTables, or VBA macros?

No.

Is the workbook stored locally on your device, or is it located on OneDrive, SharePoint, or a network drive?

Locally on the device.

Does the issue affect other users who open the same workbook, or only your account/device?

The workbook works on my colleague's laptop.

No formulas has been modified.
