    Hi Kaye Ibarra

I understand that Outlook shows “Cannot connect to server. Please try again. Error 440”, and that you also cannot sign in through the app.

Please reply with these details only, without posting personal information:

    • Is the account an Outlook.com/Hotmail/Live personal account or a work/school account?
    • Can you sign in at Microsoft account security?
    • Does Outlook.com Mail work in InPrivate/Incognito mode?
    • Which app shows “Cannot connect to server”: Outlook mobile, iPhone Mail, Android Mail, or another app?
    • What device and browser are you using?
    • Please provide the error text again with Client ID, Session ID, request ID, and email address removed.

    Also, try the steps below.

    1) Check whether Outlook.com is available

    2) Test Outlook.com in a clean browser session

    • Open a private, InPrivate, or Incognito browser window.
    • Go directly to Outlook.com Mail.
    • Sign in again.
    • If Outlook opens there, clear cookies and cached site data for Microsoft/Outlook in your normal browser.
    • Temporarily disable any VPN, proxy, ad blocker, script blocker, privacy extension, or antivirus web protection.
    • Test Outlook.com again.

    3) Run the Microsoft account sign-in helper

Use this if the problem is not only Outlook.com loading, but also Microsoft account sign-in.

    4) Update or reinstall the Outlook mobile app

If the error also happens in the Outlook mobile app:

    • Update Outlook from the App Store or Google Play.
    • Restart the phone.
    • Remove the account from the Outlook app.
    • Add the account again.
    • If the app still fails, uninstall Outlook, reinstall it, and add the account again.

    5) If using Apple Mail or another non-Microsoft mail app

If “the app” means Apple Mail, Samsung Mail, Gmail app, or another third-party mail app instead of the Outlook app, remove the account and add it back using the Outlook.com option, not manual/basic password setup.

    For Apple Mail on iPhone:

    • Go to Settings > Mail > Accounts.
    • Select the Outlook.com account.
    • Tap Delete Account.
    • Restart the iPhone.
    • Go back to Settings > Mail > Accounts.
    • Tap Add Account.
    • Choose Outlook.com.
    • Sign in through the Microsoft sign-in page.

Please tell me how it goes. If the problem persists, please don’t hesitate to reply to this thread and I will be happy to help. Have a lovely day!
