Using Classic Outlook on Windows for personal email, calendar, and contact management
Hi Paul Cullen
Please reply with:
- Is the problem with iCloud Mail, Calendar, Contacts, or all three?
- What version of Classic Outlook are you using? You can check this from File > Office Account > About Outlook.
- What version of iCloud for Windows is installed?
- Does the data appear correctly on iCloud.com?
- Do you see any exact error message in Outlook or iCloud for Windows?
Also try the steps below.
1) Confirm what is no longer syncing
Please first confirm whether the problem is with:
- iCloud Calendar and Contacts in Classic Outlook
- iCloud Mail in Classic Outlook
- All of the above
2) Check iCloud for Windows calendar and contact sync
- Close Classic Outlook.
- Open iCloud for Windows.
- Make sure you are signed in with the same Apple Account used on your Apple devices.
- Next to Calendars and Contacts, turn on the option to automatically sync iCloud calendars and contacts with Microsoft Outlook.
- Select Done or Apply, then follow the setup prompts.
- Reopen Outlook and check whether the iCloud calendar and contacts appear.
3) Sign out of iCloud for Windows, then sign back in
- Close Outlook.
- Open iCloud for Windows.
- Sign out.
- Restart the PC.
- Open iCloud for Windows and sign back in.
- Enable Calendars and Contacts for Outlook again.
- Open Outlook and test the sync.
4) Check basic iCloud requirements
Before changing Outlook profiles or reinstalling anything, check the basic iCloud requirements first.
- Make sure the PC is connected to the internet.
- Make sure the Windows date and time are correct.
- Confirm iCloud for Windows is installed and up to date.
- Check Apple System Status for any iCloud Calendar, Contacts, or Mail issue.
- Make a copy or export of important iCloud data before making major changes.
5) If Outlook says the installed version is not supported by iCloud
If you receive an error saying the installed version of Outlook is not supported by iCloud, uninstall the Office version obtained from the Windows Store, then install Microsoft 365/Office from Microsoft instead.
6) If the issue is iCloud Mail, check the password method
- In Classic Outlook, go to File > Add Account.
- Enter the iCloud email address.
- If Outlook does not accept the normal Apple Account password, generate an Apple app-specific password.
- Use that app-specific password in Outlook.
7) Use iCloud.com as a temporary workaround
While troubleshooting, you can still access iCloud Mail, Contacts, and Calendars directly from iCloud.com or from your Apple device. Please also check iCloud.com because it helps confirm whether the data still exists in iCloud and whether the issue is only with the Outlook/iCloud for Windows connection.
Please tell me how it goes. If the problem persists, please don’t hesitate to reply to this thread and I will be happy to help. Have a lovely day!
