Copilot sidebar issue

Hi There -

I am wondering how to fix my copilot sidebar that shows up on the right side of my laptop, last in the home web address line. It says "This content is blocked. Contact the site owner to fix the issue"? However, when I type copilot.microsoft.com in the address bar it works fine.

Thanks - Vickie F.

If Copilot works in a normal tab but the right-side Edge sidebar shows "This content is blocked. Contact the site owner to fix the issue", the issue is usually caused by an Edge policy or sidebar app blocking configuration rather than Copilot itself.

    Try these checks in order:

    1. Confirm the sidebar and Copilot are enabled
      • Open edge://settings/appearance/copilotAndSidebar
      • Set the sidebar to Always on
      • Under App specific settings > Copilot, make sure Show Copilot button on the toolbar is turned on
    2. Check whether Edge policies are blocking the sidebar or Copilot
      • Open edge://policy
      • Look for HubsSidebarEnabled
        • If it is Disabled, the sidebar is controlled by policy and Copilot can be affected
      • Look for ExtensionInstallBlocklist
        • If * is present, all extensions are blocked
        • If the Copilot extension ID ofefcgjbeghpigppfmkologfjadafddi is listed, Copilot is blocked
      • If either policy is blocking Copilot, the fix is to have the IT administrator change the policy
    3. Check for sidebar app URL blocking
      • In managed environments, the EdgeSidebarAppUrlHostBlockList policy can prevent Copilot Chat from loading in the sidebar
      • If that policy is set to *, EdgeSidebarAppUrlHostAllowList must include these entries:
        • edge://discover-chat
        • edge://commercial-copilot-chat and chrome-untrusted://commercial-copilot-chat in Edge 146+
        • edge://hub-app-store if using versions earlier than Edge 146
      • After policy changes, restart Edge
    4. Update Edge
      • Open edge://settings/help
      • Install the latest update
      • Restart Edge
      • Copilot in the Edge sidebar requires Microsoft Edge version 111 or later
    5. Check account and platform requirements
      • Open edge://settings/profiles and verify the browser is signed in with a valid Microsoft account
      • Copilot availability depends on region, account type, and tenant settings
      • Copilot in Edge requires a desktop edition of Windows and is not available in PWA or Web App windows
      • Child accounts cannot use Copilot
    6. Test with a new Edge profile
      • Select the profile icon in Edge
      • Choose Add profile > Add
      • Test whether Copilot loads in the sidebar there
      • If it works in the new profile, the original profile likely has a corrupted setting or conflicting extension
    7. Reset Edge settings if the problem is profile-specific
      • Go to edge://settings/reset
      • Select Restore settings to their default values
      • Caution: this resets the startup page, new tab page, search engine, and pinned tabs, disables extensions, and clears temporary data such as cookies. Favorites, history, and saved passwords are not affected.

If the device is managed by work or school IT, the most likely cause is a policy such as EdgeSidebarAppUrlHostBlockList, HubsSidebarEnabled, or ExtensionInstallBlocklist. In that case, export the policy list from edge://policy and share it with the administrator.
