I have to work from home due to illness three days per week can I use my office licence on my home device without my company purchasing a new licence

In most cases, you can use your existing Microsoft 365 business license on your home Windows device without your company needing to purchase an additional license, provided that the license is assigned to you and includes the desktop Office applications. Microsoft licensing allows a licensed user to sign in to Microsoft 365 apps on up to 5 PCs or Macs, 5 tablets, and 5 phones using their work account.

You can install and activate Office on your home device if:

• Your organization has assigned you a Microsoft 365 license that includes desktop applications, such as Microsoft 365 Apps for Business, Business Standard, Business Premium, E3, or E5.
• You sign in using your own company work account rather than a shared account.

However, an additional or different license may be required if:

• Your current license only provides access to the web versions of Office apps and does not include desktop applications.
• Your organization uses a device-based license instead of a user-based Microsoft 365 Apps license.
• Company IT policies restrict installation on personal or unmanaged devices.
• Your home device does not meet the supported system requirements for Microsoft 365 Apps.

Important note: Even if Microsoft licensing permits installation on a personal device, I recommend checking with your company's IT or security team first. Your organization may require certain security controls, such as device management, antivirus protection, encryption, VPN access, or Intune enrollment before allowing access to corporate data from a home device.
