Processes in Microsoft 365 for setting up Office apps, redeeming product keys, and activating licenses.
Hello lisa nordstrom,
I understand Microsoft 365 was installed on the second laptop, but Office still asks for a $20 payment and Outlook reports that there is not enough space to send email. The payment prompt may be caused by the preinstalled trial, old sign-in credentials, or Office using the wrong account.
First, I recommend signing in to Outlook on the web and testing whether you can send an email there.
If the space warning also appears on the web, it might indicate that the Outlook mailbox or Microsoft cloud storage for that account is full, rather than an Office installation or activation problem. Open Settings, search for Storage, remove large or unnecessary items, and empty Deleted Items, as deleted messages still count toward the storage limit until that folder is emptied.
If the issue occurs only on the second laptop:
- Uninstall the existing trial or free Office installation, then restart the laptop. Next, open Credential Manager > Windows Credentials and remove old saved Office or Microsoft 365 credentials, then restart again.
- Open Word or Excel and sign in with the Microsoft account that owns the subscription. Under File > Account, select Update License, then confirm that Product Activated appears.
Please let me know how it goes after trying these steps, and I'll be glad to continue looking into it with you.
