    Hi, Glenn Dudley

This can be caused by an outdated Word build, a problem with one document, or a background writing tool such as Grammarly processing each keystroke. Testing a blank file helps narrow down where the delay starts.

Here are some suggestions you can try:

Create a new blank document and type for a minute. If it works normally, save the affected document locally and test it again. For a large document, temporarily turn off Track Changes, or change All Markup to Simple Markup.

Fully quit Grammarly, text expanders, and similar writing tools running in the background, then reopen Word. It is recommended that you test this even if no Word add-in appears installed, as the Grammarly desktop app has been confirmed to cause this exact typing delay.

If using a Bluetooth keyboard, test the built-in Mac keyboard or a wired keyboard.

If it still lags, please provide the macOS version, the version under Word > About Microsoft Word, and whether typing is also delayed in Notes or Safari.

Thank you for your patience in reading, I hope this information has been helpful to you.
