Problem Accessing OneNote

I had to reset my Microsoft password due to uni (we do regular password resets).

I was able to sign in again to the OneNote on my laptop, however it didn't work with my iPad. When I pressed 'sign in again' on my OneNote, it didn't work and was stuck on the page I had open before I reset my password.

I decided to sign out and try again. After I entered my email, it would quickly open the Microsoft Authenticator app but then skip straight to the 'enter password' screen. I entered it, however after I did the window closed and it didn't work, the screen was still stuck.

I've tried deleting the app and downloading it again. I tried to sign in once more, but it keeps skipping over the Authenticator app and forcing me to put my password in, and it didn't work each time.

I then tried opening my OneNote in my iPad browser, which kind of worked. I was able to open my notebooks in safari, but clicking the 'Open In OneNote app' button just takes me to the sign in page on the app.

Now, even when I've deleted the app and redownloaded it, it retains my sign-in information (when trying to sign in my account shows up as one of the options). But now when I press it, it skips the Authenticator and also the password screen, just going back to the sign-in page. I'm not too sure how to get myself in.

Hi @Maria Pia Villegas (24219303)

Since you can successfully access your notebooks in Safari, your account itself appears to be working. This points more toward a cached authentication issue in the OneNote app or the Office identity on your iPad rather than an issue with your Microsoft account.

I'd suggest trying the following steps:

  • Go to Settings > OneNote > Reset OneNote.
  • Enable Delete Login Credentials (and Delete All Notebooks only if all notebooks are already synced to OneDrive, as this removes only the local offline copies).
  • Force close OneNote and restart your iPad.
  • Sign in again.

If the issue persists, try signing in to another Microsoft 365 app such as Word or Outlook first, then return to OneNote. Since Microsoft 365 apps share authentication, this can sometimes refresh the Office identity.

I hope this helps.
