Conditional Formatting Not Reverting

Question

I have conditional formatting set so the cell turns red if the word "vacant" is in the cell. That is working fine. However, the cell is not reverting back to the normal formatting once the cell is filled with a different word. How do I correct this?

Hi NP,

For your concern, you can try this setup:

• Select the problem cells > Home > Clear > Clear Format
• Then select the cells you want to apply formatting > Home > Conditional Formatting > Manage Rules > Edit Rule.
• In this case, you can use either:
  • Format only cells that contain > Specific Text > containing > "vacant"
  • If you want a formula rule, use this formula =A1="vacant" (Replace A1 with the first cell in your selected range.)

When the cell changes to anything other than the word "vacant", the red formatting should disappear automatically.
