    Hi KATHY SHOCKEY,

I’m sorry to hear that Microsoft Edge continues to crash and that the troubleshooting you've tried so far hasn't resolved the issue.

To avoid suggesting steps you've already completed, could you let me know which of the troubleshooting steps you've already performed and what the results were? For example, have you already tried repairing Edge, testing with a temporary profile, creating a new Edge profile, disabling hardware acceleration or checking for updates?

It would also be helpful if you could provide:

    • Your Windows version and OS build (press Windows + R, type winver and share a screenshot or the details shown).
    • Whether Edge crashes immediately on launch, after a few seconds or only when opening specific websites.
    • Any error message you receive.
    • If available, the latest crash information from edge://crashes or any related Application Error entries from Event Viewer.

Once I know what has already been tried, I'll do my best to suggest the next appropriate steps without repeating previous troubleshooting.

I look forward to your update.

Try these steps in order. After each step, start Edge again and check whether it stays open.

    1. End all Edge processes.
      • Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager.
      • End every msedge.exe task.
      • Start Edge again.
    2. Check for an Edge update.
      • Open Settings and more > Settings > About Microsoft Edge.
      • Apply any available update.
    3. If Edge opens long enough, turn off graphics acceleration.
      • Go to edge://settings/system.
      • Turn off Use graphics acceleration when available.
      • Restart Edge.
      • If this fixes the crash, update the GPU driver and then turn graphics acceleration back on.
    4. Test with a temporary profile.
      • Open Command Prompt and run:
         "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge\Application\msedge.exe" --user-data-dir="%TEMP%\edge-test-profile"

      • If Edge works with this test profile, the original profile is likely corrupted.
    5. Create a new profile if the test profile works.
      • Close all Edge windows.
      • Go to %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Edge\User Data.
      • Rename the Default folder to Default.old.
      • Start Edge to create a fresh Default profile.
      • Risk: this resets the local Edge profile until data is copied back. If Edge becomes stable, copy needed data such as Bookmarks from Default.old to the new Default profile.
    6. Repair Microsoft Edge.
      • Go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
      • Select Microsoft Edge > Modify > Repair.
      • Browser data and settings should not be affected by repair.
    7. If Edge still crashes, reduce common causes.
      • Close other apps and tabs.
      • Uninstall extensions that are not needed.
      • Restart the PC.
      • Scan the device for malware.
      • If third-party security software is installed, update it.

If more help is needed, collect these details before opening a support request:

    • Edge version from edge://version
    • Latest crash ID from edge://crashes
    • Application Error events from Event Viewer > Windows Logs > Application filtered for Application Error, the faulting module, and msedge.exe
