Multiple Users Screen Sharing is blurry

So I have quite a few users on multiple different devices and OS (Windows and Linux) that are all reporting the same screen sharing blurriness when in Teams meetings.

We have tried changing the screens resolutions to be smaller, deleting the cache, making a new meeting, different wifi and ethernet (some are WFH and some are in office), different locations (We have a few offices in different states) and are all reporting the same issues.

For a different group they were able to create a new meeting and the issue went away but for some reason it persists for other users

    Hello @Amber

From your description, I understand that multiple users across different devices, operating systems (Windows and Linux), network types (WiFi and Ethernet), and office locations are experiencing blurry screen sharing during Microsoft Teams meetings.

    • You have already completed several good troubleshooting steps, including changing screen resolutions, clearing the Teams cache, testing different networks, and even creating new meetings.
    • You also noticed that creating a new meeting resolved the behavior for one group, while the same approach did not help other users.

To confirm the situation and suggest the troubleshooting steps in the right direction, may I confirm a few points:

    • Is the blurriness affecting only shared content, or are cameras/video feeds also appearing blurry?
    • Are users sharing an entire screen or a specific application window?
    • Does the issue occur in all meetings or only meetings organized by certain users?
    • Are the affected users using the Teams desktop client, Teams on the web, or a mix of both?
    • Do meeting recordings also appear blurry, or is it only during the live meeting?
    • Is the issue present when a different person shares their screen in the same meeting?

Along the way, I will also share a few simple steps you can try to double‑check what might be happening on your end.

    1/ Compare Screen Sharing Methods

This helps determine whether the behavior affects all shared content or only a specific sharing mode.

    • Join a test meeting.
    • Select "Share" from the meeting toolbar.
    • First share an individual application window.
    • Then stop sharing.
    • Share the entire desktop screen.
    • Compare the image quality seen by participants.

If one method is clearer than the other, that provides a useful clue about where to continue troubleshooting.

    2/ Test Using Teams Web

This helps determine whether the behavior is specific to the desktop client.

    • Open Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome.
    • Navigate to https://teams.microsoft.com
    • Sign in with the same account.
    • Join a test meeting.
    • Share the same content and compare the quality.

If the web version produces different results, that can help isolate the source of the behavior.

You can send me a screenshot or describe more about this issue so I can understand your needs better for further assistance. (Please kindly remove all personal information)

    Kind regards,

For widespread blurry screen sharing across multiple users, devices, operating systems, networks, and locations, the supported causes and checks point to these areas:

    1. Check whether the blur is tied to high-motion content. Teams uses a low default frame rate for screen sharing because most shared content is static. That preserves resolution, but shared video or other high-motion content can appear to lag or drop frames.
      • In Teams 1.6.00.12455 and later, start sharing, then press Ctrl+Alt+Shift+T to enable high-motion screen sharing.
      • This is a toggle.
      • Shared resolution might drop to accommodate the higher frame rate.
      • In newer Teams experiences, use the presenter control toolbar option to optimize for video when screen sharing.
    2. Verify the actual screen-sharing session quality in the meeting. In the meeting:
      • Select More
      • Select Settings
      • Select Call health
      • Review the Screen Sharing section for frame rate, resolution, and related details
Low frame rate can indicate system resource constraints, insufficient bandwidth, or video capture/device issues.
    3. If the issue is specific to Teams Rooms on Windows receiving the share from laptops, check laptop resolution. There is a known issue where a full-screen share from a laptop set to 1920x1200 can look blurry on a Teams Rooms on Windows display.
      • Workaround: set the laptop display resolution to 1920x1080.
    4. If affected users are in VDI and use multiple clouds, check optimization mode. Users signed into multiple clouds cannot get optimized with WebRTC. If they roam to a device that does not support SlimCore, they remain in fallback mode until they return to a SlimCore-capable device. If Cross Cloud features should work but do not:
      • Quit Teams after it gets optimized with SlimCore
      • Delete ecs_settings.dat64 from %localappdata%\packages\MSTeams\_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\microsoft\MSTeams
      • Restart Teams
    5. Since cache clearing and network/location changes were already tried, avoid repeating those as primary next steps. Focus on isolating whether the blur is:
      • only high-motion/video sharing,
      • only on Teams Rooms displays,
      • only in VDI or cross-cloud scenarios,
      • or visible in Call health as low frame rate or reduced resolution.

If a new meeting fixed it for one group but not others, that does not establish a single tenant-wide cause. The supported next step is to compare the affected meetings using Call health and determine whether the shared session is running at low frame rate or reduced resolution.
