Windows Magnifier BUG (After 20h2)

Hello,

Hope this is posted in the right location. Ever since the deployment of Windows branch release 20h2 - Windows Magnifier has not been working properly. We have individuals in our org who use it in Docked Mode [Ctrl+Alt+D] (With Dual screen setup).

Since 20h2 - when on the primary screen - it flickers / black repeatedly, when moving the mouse around. Very hard on the eyes/head.

  • Have found if you change the screen primary that the issue follows.
  • This is NOT a driver issue.
  • If you enabled Invert colors - issue goes away (However you are stuck with looking and bright colors that is not the desired state).

Requesting if others can please attempt this, we have been able to re-produce on several different makes / models of end points systems.
If this truly is an unidentified bug with the release, would ask for help in getting this to the right group / team to sort.

Thanks in advance,
Mark K~

    Hi,

I own a Surface Book 3, and since the upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11 22H2, magnifier window has become totally dark, it does not even flick when moving the mouse, it stays dark, no magnification at all. I use to dock magnifier at top of the screen. The funny thing is that when detaching the screen (which is, in fact, the PC with the CPU Intel and its integrated GPU Iris+) from the keyboard (which embeds the dedicated graphic card Nvidia GTX 1650 Max Q), the Magnifier works fine (I need to close it and start again). If I plug back the screen, few second later or after closing Magnifier and starting again, it come backs with a dark screen. Despite the fact I update my Nvidia graphic driver to the latest version, it did not fix the issue. Continuing my search, I noticed that in Nvidia Control Panel, in Manage 3D Settings, if I set by default the Preferred graphic processor to the Nvidia one, the issue with Magnifier appears. But if I set the Preferred graphic processor to Integrated graphic or Auto-select, issue with Magnifier disappears.

So, I don't know if that is a Nvidia or Windows 11 issue, but this worked fine with Windows 10, which let me think that Windows 11 has an issue managing dedicated graphic cards.

Would be good to share if those who encounter the issue with Magnifier in Windows 11 also use dedicated graphic card.

    Cheers

    Stati
