Hey there! Nice to meet you!

Please be advised that unless the account owner is able to access the account, subscription cancellation is not possible, and Microsoft personnel cannot retrieve this information.

Since you mentioned that you can't access the account where the recent subscription renewal occurred and in case you are no longer able to recover this account, you will need to reach out directly to your bank and request to freeze all charges from Microsoft, cancelling the subscription on its renewal in the process.

You may also need to request a new payment method.

Please let me know if you need anything else.

    Best regards,

    Darhyl

Each subscription is tied to a specific Microsoft account. The most likely cause is that the renewed subscription is on a different account than the one currently signed in.

    1. Go to the Microsoft account Services & subscriptions page and sign in with the account used for the renewal: Sign in.
    2. Check which account shows the active Microsoft 365 subscription.
    3. In the Office app that is opening files as read-only, go to File > Account and make sure the same Microsoft account is signed in there.
    4. Close all Office apps, then open them again. If prompted, sign in again with the account that has the active subscription.
    5. If the renewed subscription is active but access still does not work, contact Microsoft Support.

If the second subscription was created by mistake, identify which account has the subscription to keep, then cancel the other one from Services & subscriptions.

If there is a second charge for the same subscription, first confirm it is not tied to another Microsoft account or a family member’s account. If it is on the same account and no automatic refund appears, contact Microsoft Support.
