In the meantime, I recommend trying the following steps to help identify what may be causing the behavior.

1/ Start Word in Safe Mode

• Press the Windows + R keys.
• Type winword /safe and select "OK".
• Open a document and type for a few minutes.

If Word remains stable, an add-in may be contributing to the issue.

2/ Disable Word Add-ins

• Open Word normally.
• Select "File" > "Options".
• Select "Add-ins" from the left pane.
• At the bottom, next to "Manage", select "COM Add-ins" and then "Go...".
• Clear all add-in checkboxes.
• Select "OK" and restart Word.

3/ Check for Office Updates

It helps to ensure Word is running the latest available version.

• Open Word.
• Select "File" > "Account".
• Select "Update Options" > "Update Now".

4/ Repair Microsoft Office

• Save your work and close all Office programs
• Press the *"Windows Key + I" *to open "Settings. 
• Go to "Apps"> "Installed apps". 
• Type Microsoft 365 or Office in the search bar. 
• Click the "three dots (...)" next to the name and select "Modify".

If Word crashes while typing, a known cause is a language pack or proofing tools version mismatch in Microsoft 365 Apps, especially after updating to Version 2407 Build 17830.20138 or later.

Check for this specific issue:

1. Open Windows Event Viewer and review the Application log.
2. Look for Event 1000 or Event 1001.
3. If the faulting module is something like mscss7it.dll, mscss7ge.dll, or another mscss7xx.dll, this matches the known typing-related crash issue.

Recommended fixes:

1. Do an Online Repair of Office.
2. Go to Windows Settings > Apps > Installed Apps and look for an older Office language installation. If the faulting module version is something like 16.0.4288.1000, uninstall that older MSI-based language component.
3. Uninstall and then reinstall the language pack using Language Accessory Pack for Microsoft 365.

Additional notes:

• This issue was fixed in Version 2409 builds for Microsoft 365 Apps.
• If older Office 2016 proofing tools are installed alongside newer Microsoft 365 Apps, uninstall them. That side-by-side setup is not supported and can cause these crashes.
• If the issue continues even after updating to the fixed build, repair Office again.
