Welcome Catherine Shimmin,
Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A Forum. I understand that your Ricoh printer is no longer obtaining an IP address automatically from DHCP after an upgrade and you would like to use a dynamic IP address instead of a static one.
Could you confirm:
- Was the upgrade a Windows upgrade or a firmware update on the Ricoh printer?
- Does the printer's network status page show an IP address that begins with 169.254.x.x, or does it show no IP address at all?
Building on the earlier suggestions, you might also consider the following options:
Option 1: Verify DHCP is enabled on the printer
- Open the printer's network settings from the control panel
- Locate TCP/IP or Network Settings
- Ensure DHCP or Obtain IP Address Automatically is enabled
- Restart the printer after making any changes
Option 2: Confirm the network is providing DHCP addresses
- Restart the router or network switch if applicable
- Check whether other devices on the same network receive IP addresses automatically
Option 3: Refresh the printer's network connection
- Disconnect the network cable or Wi‑Fi connection
- Reconnect it and restart the printer
- Print a network configuration page to verify whether a new IP address is assigned
Option 4: Remove and re-add the printer in Windows
- Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners
- Remove the existing printer
- Select Add device and allow Windows to search again
Option 5: Check for updated printer drivers.
- Open Device Manager
- Expand Print queues
- Right-click the Ricoh printer and select Update driver
