Hello, as stated in the title above, I have an installation and usage compatibility issue.

Currently, I am using Microsoft Office HOME and Business 2021 in boxes with product keys.

I plan to purchase and use the Visio Standard 2024 ESD for my work.

Is there any installation or usage issue with the different versions?

    Dear @Hayes Louisa,

Based on your description, Office Home & Business 2021 and Visio Standard 2024 can generally be installed and used on the same computer, but there are a few important requirements to verify.

As the forum's AI recommended, the main factors to verify are the installation technology (Click-to-Run), matching bitness (32-bit or 64-bit), and supported side-by-side installation requirements between Office and Visio. If these requirements are met, Office Home & Business 2021 and Visio Standard 2024 can generally be installed and used on the same computer without issue

Before purchasing Visio, you may want to confirm your current Office architecture by opening Word > File > Account > About Word and checking whether your Office installation is 32-bit or 64-bit. The Visio edition should match the existing Office installation.

I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Yes—there can be compatibility issues, and the key checks are installation technology, bitness, and update channel.

For Office Home and Business 2021 and Visio Standard 2024 on the same PC:

    1. Version compatibility
      • Office 2021 and Visio 2024 are both version 16.0.
      • Products with the same version can be installed together only if they use the same installation technology.
    2. Installation technology
      • Office 2021 uses Click-to-Run.
      • Visio 2024 compatibility with Microsoft 365 Apps is called out in the supported scenarios guidance, and side-by-side installs depend on matching installation technology.
      • If one product is Click-to-Run and the other is MSI, they can't be installed together.
    3. Bitness must match
      • Both products must be either 32-bit or 64-bit.
      • A 32-bit Visio can't be installed with a 64-bit Office, and vice versa.
    4. Install order
      • Earlier versions should be installed first.
      • In this case, having Office 2021 already installed before adding Visio 2024 follows that guidance.
    5. Possible install behavior
      • If setup detects an incompatible combination, installation can fail with messages such as products not being installable at the same time.
      • In some mixed-version or overlapping-app scenarios, setup may also prompt to remove an existing product.
    6. Practical conclusion for this scenario
      • Office Home and Business 2021 plus Visio Standard 2024 can work on the same computer if:
        • both use Click-to-Run,
        • both are the same 32-bit or 64-bit edition.
      • If those do not match, installation issues are expected.

To verify the current Office installation before buying/installing Visio:

    • Open an Office app such as Word.
    • Go to File > Account > About Word.
    • Check the version details and whether the installed edition is 32-bit or 64-bit.
    • The installed Office details can also be checked in Control Panel > Programs and Features.
