In Classic Outlook for Windows, you can reduce the Message List font separately.

Go to View > View Settings > Other Settings > Row Font, choose a smaller font size, then click OK three times. “Row Font” controls the sender, subject, and message preview in the message list. Microsoft’s instructions are here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook/create-change-or-customize-a-view-in-outlook

If you want the entire Outlook interface smaller, check Settings > System > Display > Scale in Windows and reduce the scaling if it is currently above 100%.

For Classic Outlook for Windows, to decrease the font size in the Message List:

    1. Select View > View Settings.
    2. Select Other Settings in the Advanced View Settings dialog.
    3. Select Row Font to change the font size for the sender name, subject, and message preview in the default Inbox view.
    4. Select a smaller Size, then select OK.
    5. Select OK two more times to save and apply the change.

If the column headers are also too large:

    1. Go to View > View Settings.
    2. Select Other Settings.
    3. Select Column Font.
    4. Choose a smaller Size, then select OK three times.

If the issue is the reading area rather than the message list, open a message and reduce zoom with Ctrl + Scroll Wheel or Ctrl + Plus/Minus.
