The steps I provided were not meant to resolve the problem, I need to check your Apple Mac version to provide you with a solution, please provide the information from number 2 below.

This did not solve my problem. Now when I try to log in it says that I do not have a subscription to restore. I clearly have the bank receipt to prove that I have been paying every month. I need this restored.

The 0x0 error is a widely reported problem with the Office apps on an Apple Mac which may be caused by the July update.

    1

What version of Microsoft Office do you have, is that a subscription to Microsoft 365 or a standalone version of Office like Office 2019, 2021 or 2024.

    2

At the top left of your Desktop, click the Apple icon and select 'About this Mac', what version of MacOS is installed on your computer?

For Word on macOS, error 0x0 is tied to a known Microsoft 365/Office activation issue.

    Try this in order:

    1. Check macOS version Word requires macOS 12 or later for the documented fix path.
    2. Close all Office apps Quit Word and any other Office apps before updating.
    3. Update Office If Office was installed from microsoft.com:
      • Open Finder > Applications > Microsoft AutoUpdate
      • If Microsoft AutoUpdate is not visible, check: /Library/Application Support/Microsoft/MAU2.0/
      • Select Update All or update the Office apps individually
If Office was installed from the App Store:
      • Open App Store
      • Select Updates
      • Update Word and the other Microsoft apps
    4. Test Word again After updates finish, open Word and check whether editing is restored.

If updating does not fix it, the accepted support guidance in similar cases is to uninstall and reinstall Office, and the install source must match the purchase source:

    • If the subscription was purchased through the App Store, reinstall from the App Store.
    • If it was purchased directly from Microsoft, reinstall from the Microsoft account install experience.

If the issue is on Windows PC instead of Mac, the documented path is different:

    1. Open an Office app and go to File > Account > Update Options > Update Now.
    2. If Word still fails, start Word in Safe Mode with winword /safe.
    3. If Word opens in Safe Mode, go to File > Options > Add-Ins, then disable add-ins one at a time.
    4. If needed, repair Office, then install Windows updates and current device drivers.
