Teams told me my camera is not working, not sure how to resolve this. Permissions are allowed through Chrome, but in Microsoft setting it says "none found" for camera.

    Dear @Krauth, Caroline

I understand how frustrating it is when your camera works in your browser settings, but Teams shows "none found" in its settings.

This usually happens when Windows or macOS privacy settings block desktop app access, or when another background app is holding exclusive control of the camera sensor.

Here are the direct solutions to resolve this issue:

Step 1: Grant System-Level Camera Permissions

Even if Chrome has access, your operating system may be blocking Teams.

    • Windows 10 / 11: Go to Settings > Privacy & security > Camera. Ensure Camera access is turned ON, and specifically verify that Let apps access your camera and Let desktop apps access your camera are toggled ON.
    • macOS: Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera and ensure Microsoft Teams (or your browser) is checked.

Step 2: Check for Hardware Switches or Privacy Covers

Many modern laptops (e.g., Lenovo, HP, Asus) have a physical slider over the lens or a dedicated camera toggle key on the keyboard (typically F8, F10, or Fn + Camera key). Ensure the physical lens is uncovered and the privacy switch is enabled.

Step 3: Close Competing Apps & Restart Media Services

If another application (Zoom, Skype, Webex, or a browser tab) accessed the camera first, Teams cannot access it.

Close all video-calling applications and browser tabs.

Fully quit Teams by right-clicking the Teams icon in your taskbar/system tray and selecting Quit.

    Restart Teams.

    • Reset the Camera Driver (Windows)
    • Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager.
    • Expand Cameras (or Imaging devices).
    • Right-click your camera and select Disable device, wait 5 seconds, and select Enable device.
    • If that fails, select Update driver > Search automatically for drivers.

    Try these steps in order:

    1. Close anything else that might be using the camera, such as Skype or a browser tab using video.
    2. If using an external webcam, unplug it and plug it back in.
    3. Restart the device.
    4. Make sure Windows and the Teams app are fully updated.
    5. In Teams, go to Settings > Devices and make a test call to check whether the camera is detected.

If the issue continues on Windows:

    1. Open Settings > Privacy & security > Camera.
    2. Turn on Let apps access your camera.
    3. Make sure Microsoft Teams (work or school) is turned on.
    4. If it is already on, turn it off and back on.
    5. Close apps and restart the device.

If using Teams on the web, also allow camera access in the browser:

    • Edge: Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Site permissions > All permissions > Camera > turn on Ask before accessing (recommended).
    • Chrome: Settings > Privacy and security > Site settings > Permissions > Camera > select the correct camera and set Sites can ask to use your camera.
    • Safari: Settings > Websites > Camera > set When visiting other websites to Ask or Allow.

If the camera still does not work, check the camera driver in Windows or contact the device manufacturer in case it is a hardware issue.
