    Hi Sophia,

I understand that Gmail cannot send messages to your school and that you would like to use a Microsoft email address instead.

Please note that this is a user-to-user forum, so contributors do not have access to your account or the school’s mail system.

Have you had a chance to try the alias steps in the Q&A Assist answer? Those steps are applicable if the Microsoft address is already an alias on your account.

I would also like to add that you do not need to connect Gmail to Outlook.com to send from an existing Outlook.com or Hotmail address. Outlook.com no longer supports adding new Gmail accounts as connected accounts. Connected email accounts in Outlook.com

Could you confirm whether you already have an Outlook.com or Hotmail address and provide the exact non-delivery message received when sending to the school? Please remove any email addresses or other personal information before posting it.

This information will help determine whether the message is being restricted by the Microsoft account or the school’s receiving system.

In Outlook.com, email can be sent from any email account connected to Outlook.com, or from any alias used by the Microsoft account.

To send from the Microsoft email address in Outlook.com:

    1. Open a new message.
    2. Select Options > Show From.
    3. Select the down-arrow next to From.
    4. Choose the Microsoft email address to send from.
    5. If it is not listed, select Other email address... and start typing the address or name.

    Important:

    • Sending is only available from addresses that have permission to send.
    • Sent messages go to Sent Items regardless of which address was used.
    • +sitename addresses cannot be used to send email. If another sending address is needed, an alias must be added instead.

If Gmail is connected to Outlook.com and is not working, Gmail must have IMAP enabled before it can connect properly:

    1. Go to Gmail in a browser.
    2. Open Settings.
    3. Select Forwarding and POP/IMAP.
    4. Under IMAP Access, select Enable IMAP.
    5. Select Save Changes.

If sending still fails with a delivery error to the school address:

    • Check that the school email address is typed correctly.
    • If the message is undeliverable, the issue can be on the receiving server.
    • Try sending the message directly from Outlook.com.
