I continue to get Message is “The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install windows, click “Ok” to restart the computer, and then restart the installation. “ I restarted the computer and continue getting this message. What can I do to install windows 11 Pro?

I understand that your Surface Pro is stuck in a restart loop and shows that Windows installation cannot continue. This usually means the current installation was interrupted or its setup files became damaged.

Please follow the steps below to install a fresh copy of Windows using the recovery image made specifically for your Surface model.

1. On another Windows PC, download the correct Surface recovery image using the Surface Pro’s serial number and create a USB recovery drive. See: Creating and using a USB recovery drive for Surface
2. Turn off the Surface and keep it plugged into power.
3. Insert the recovery USB.
4. Press and hold Volume Down, then press and release Power. Release Volume Down when the Surface logo appears.
5. Select Troubleshoot > Recover from a drive, then follow the prompts.

Note: The recovery image may return the Surface to its original edition, often Windows 11 Home. If Windows 11 Pro was previously purchased as a digital upgrade, you can upgrade to Pro again afterward.

If the recovery process still cannot be completed, the Surface may need to be inspected or serviced.
