Please, be aware that the "Make a test call" option is not available for users with a personal account (aka. Teams Free). This feature requires a business account.

However, the "Test mic and speaker" option is not working as expected. No sound is produced for the selected speaker device even when the speaker is known to work perfectly well with Teams.

Nevertheless, if you press the "Yes, I can hear it" button, a window with Microphone test will open.

Proceed with the microphone test, i.e. say something and then pause. If you hear your voice played back after the beep, then both your microphone and speaker are working.

If the speaker is not working during Test Mic and Speaker in Microsoft Teams, use these checks:

    1. In Teams, go to Settings and more > Settings > Devices.
    2. Under Audio > Audio settings, make sure the correct device is selected in the Speaker dropdown.
    3. Select Make a test call and follow the Test Call Bot prompts.

If the speaker device does not appear:

    • For a Bluetooth speaker, make sure it is charged and reconnect it.
    • For a wired speaker or headset, unplug it and plug it back in.

If the issue happens during a meeting:

    1. In the meeting window, select the dropdown arrow next to Mic.
    2. Select More actions > Audio settings.
    3. Under Speaker, confirm the correct device is selected and unmuted.

In Windows, also verify the speaker is enabled:

    1. Open Start and search for Sound settings.
    2. Go to System > Sound.
    3. Under Choose where to play sound, select the speaker.
    4. Next to Volume, make sure it is not muted.
    5. If needed, go to Advanced > More sound settings and re-enable the device.

    If using Remote Desktop:

    1. Open Remote Desktop Connection.
    2. Select the Local Resources tab.
    3. Under Remote audio, select Settings….
    4. Set Remote audio playback to Play on this computer.
    5. Set Remote audio recording to Record from this computer.

Also make sure Teams and the operating system are up to date.

Note: the test call feature is currently available in English only and is unavailable on Teams for web. A Microsoft Q&A entry also notes that the test option can be unreliable, and that Test call in Settings > Devices is not available with a personal subscription.
