Language changed during account compromised

Question

My account was compromised and the language was changed. I went ahead and changed my password and downloaded the authenticator app for security, but how do I change my language settings back to my default preference?

Is it language for the outlook.com interface?

If so, once you sign into outlook.com, click on the gear icon on the upper right to launch settings, and use this screenshot to guide you to the locations to change the language.

If the account was compromised, secure it first, then change the language setting back.

1. Run the Microsoft account recovery flow if there is still any sign of unauthorized access: Start.
2. After the account is secure, sign in to Outlook on the web and open Settings.
3. Go to General > Language and time.
4. Under Language (Country/Region), select the preferred language and save the change.
5. If the language still does not stay changed, review account settings that are commonly affected after compromise, including connected accounts, forwarding, and automatic replies.

If the issue affects the Microsoft account more broadly, not just Outlook on the web, use the account settings page to review and change the account language preferences.
