    Try these steps in order:

    1. Run the automated camera troubleshooter in the Get Help app. This can automatically diagnose and fix many camera problems.
    2. Check Windows camera privacy settings:
      • Go to Start > Settings > Privacy & security > Camera.
      • Make sure Camera access is On.
      • Make sure Let apps access your camera is On.
    3. Check for a hardware privacy block:
      • Some laptops have a camera privacy key on the keyboard, often one of the F1–F12 keys.
      • Some devices also have a physical privacy shutter over the camera lens.
      • On some Lenovo devices, camera privacy can also be controlled in Lenovo Vantage. If privacy mode is enabled, turn it off.
    4. Restart the device after changing permissions or privacy settings.
    5. Reinstall the camera driver:
      • Open Device Manager.
      • Expand Cameras.
      • Open the camera device, go to the Driver tab, and select Uninstall Device.
      • If available, select Attempt to remove the driver for this device.
      • Restart the device so Windows reinstalls the driver.
      • Warning: Do not do this on Surface Pro X. On that device, uninstalling drivers may require a full system reset to restore them.
    6. If the camera works only sometimes or disappears intermittently:
      • Go to Settings in Windows.
      • Open the camera settings for the device.
      • Open Advanced camera options.
      • Enable Basic camera driver mode.
      • Restart Teams or the device and test again.
    7. If the camera is still not working on a Surface device:
      • Use the Surface app to check device health and install updates.
      • If needed, perform a force restart by shutting down, then holding the power button for 20 seconds.
    8. If none of the above helps, hardware service or repair may be needed.
