Additional features, settings, or issues not covered by specific Microsoft Teams categories
Directly pasting a screenshot from the clipboard into a Microsoft Planner task or Task chat is not currently documented as supported, and Microsoft has not publicly announced a release date for that capability.
The latest Planner release notes direct customers to the Microsoft 365 roadmap for upcoming features, but neither the published releases nor the available roadmap information identifies direct screenshot pasting as planned or provides a delivery timeline.^1^ An active request for this exact capability remains on the Microsoft Feedback Portal.^2^
Currently supported workaround
Save the screenshot as an image and attach it to the task:
- Capture the screenshot and save it as a PNG or JPG file.
- Open the relevant Planner task.
- Select Add attachment.
- Select File, then upload the saved screenshot.
- If necessary, select Show on card to display the image on the task card.
Uploaded files are stored in the SharePoint document library associated with the plan. The first photo attached to a task normally becomes its preview picture automatically.^3^
The newer Task chat supports rich-text formatting, links, headings, emoji reactions, editing, and deletion, but Microsoft’s documented capability list does not include pasted or inline images.^4^
Tracking or requesting the feature
- Monitor What’s new in Microsoft Planner, which links to the roadmap filtered for Planner and Microsoft Project.^1^
- Vote for and comment on the existing Feedback Portal request rather than creating a duplicate.^2^
- In Planner, use the Feedback option to describe the requirement and its importance to your product-selection decision.
For procurement purposes, this capability should therefore be treated as unavailable with no publicly committed delivery date, rather than assumed to be forthcoming.
