Shared self-hosted Integration Runtime support in Azure Synapse

Hi,

I'm currently building a large project in Azure Data Factory, where I currently have 10 Azure Data Factories running, all requiring to reach on-premise servers.
For this I'm using the Shared self-hosted Integration Runtime feature.
I'm looking into migrating to Azure Synapse, since we need to leverage the capabilities of Azure Databriks, and want the UI that Azure Synapse provides.

But currently the Shared self-hosted Integration Runtime option isn't available in Azure Synapse - Is there a specific reason why this is not supported in Azure Synapse?
Is it because there is another approach for a Azure Synapse environment to get on-premise connectivity?

My biggest concern is that it currently requires me to install 10 Integration Runtimes, across 10 Virtual Machines, in order for Azure Synapse to support my current setup.

Best regards
Mads

    Hello @Mads Gosvig .

Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum and thanks for your query.

Yes, this is a limitation (don't support sharing of IR) with Azure Synapse workspaces.

For more details, refer to Data integration in Azure Synapse Analytics versus Azure Data Factory.

As per the discussion with the Synapse product team, this feature work is in progress.

Note: Currently, we do not have the ETA at the moment but I would recommend you to please subscribe Azure Updates page for new feature announcements and updates about Azure Products.

I understand this is the biggest concern to many customers have currently. We appreciate your patience in the meantime until the feature releases.

Hope this will help. Please let us know if any further queries.
