I created a sql server and DB in AZURE. using ADF LINKED SERVICE while im trying to connect with sql server, i couldn't??

So I have not worked with Azure Data Factory, so I may not be of much help. But the obvious thing to try would of course be to check that you have the spelling correctly, as well as the domain names.

A troubleshooting guide is mentioned in the error message and there is a link to it. Did you try it?

You suggest that the error is finding the database, but the domain name in the error message, more suggests that it the issue is with the Data Factory service itself. But as I said, I don't use ADF, so may be wrong there.

In any case, I think you should add more tags to your question. There is one for azure-sql-database, and I believe there is also one for Azure Data Factory.

Finally, you may get better help if you include more information, for instance why you expect things to work.

Again, you need to share more information about what you have done and your setup. As Cint points out, if the name that appears in the error message is intended to be the address to the database, it looks plain wrong. But then again, maybe it is intended to be the name for something else?

Well, we don't know, unless you tell us. Saying "its not working" will take you nowhere.

ok u need more information. right. I have created sql server and db in azure and try to login in sql server by query preview method. it successfully logged in.(screenshot-160 and 161) then i created Adf. In Adf i used linked service to create linked service for azure sql database. (I usually create a linked service for azure blob storage and it worked fine) I entered the server, database name, authentication type, username and password (which was i created). then i tried to test the connection. It fails and shows the error which was i posted earlier. I tried troubleshooting method also.(157)

now what i want to do now, everything i entered is actually correct. I verified it.

I'm pretty sure your sql server name is wrong. In most cases your sever on azure would be named dpeastus-sv.database.windows.net . I think your first port of call would be showing us your SQL server overview page so that we can see your server details.

In all my years I have never seen a SQL server with the domain name of "datafactory.azure.com"

I can't actually see your screenshots. Usually when creating a linked service you can browse to the sql server using the drop down menu's. It will ask first which Azure subscription the SQL server is in, then it will ask which server you want to connect to. Have you tried that?

I can see one screenshot in your reply which seems to be a knowledge article with a similar sql server name that you have, but I find it very odd. Rather use the in built navigation that the linked service windows offers to navigate to your sql server

yeah i tried, it asks which server and i choose among those. That's ok and fine. but when I try to test connection it ends up in error.

I see the images in my notification email, but when I try to access them through the browser, I get message 403. I don't know why. May the forum software wants a moderator to review them.

In any case, the issue does not seem to be with the database name itself.

In the Troubleshooting guide, it says that if you get 404, the client is usually OK, and the issue is in the ADF service itself, and in that case you should file a support ticket with the activity id. And you do indeed get 404 on that name.

Possibly you think that is what you have done, but this is not a support forum in that sense. This is peer-to-peer forum for questions and answers to problems. And the answer in this case is that you should file a support ticket.

Open the taskbar to the left in the Portal, and you find Help and Support at the bottom.

yeah u r correct i got 404 only when i tried to file a support ticket, they said(from azure) "there is certain limitations in free subscription" so i just chat with them and they said post ur issues in forum and share your url. I share the url and they replied we will resolve ur issues via comments in forum.

Hello @Raghavendra A ,
As rightly pointed out by others , the server name is not correct .

From the error message it's clear that your server which you added in linked service is "dpeastus.svc.datafactory.azure.com" , when i went ahead with the intend to create a server with the same/similar name , portal stops me from creating the server with the below message .

"Your server name can contain only lowercase letters, numbers, and '-', but can't start or end with '-' or have more than 63 characters."

So the server name whcih i provided cannot have the "." in the name .

if you created a Azure sql server , the name should be some like XXXXX.database.windows.net

Please do let me know how it goes .

Yeaah actually i created a db with correct format only, but i faced error while creating a connection.so there is no problem in login the db, its fine only. from the past week i didn't face any errors in creating a connection. now its perfectly all right. Maybe the error because of connectivity issues(not from my side). I am also confused about the error why it appears?? and now its gone.
