Estimate cost of Key Vault for Synapse Double Encryption

Question

We want to enable double encryption using a customer-managed key in Azure Synapse Workspace. For that we will make use of Azure Key Vault. How can we estimate the costs of Azure Key Vault?

I guess we need to know the number of operations the workspace will carry out, therefore we need more information on how the workspace is managing the secrets.

Thanks for the question and using MS Q&A platform.

There is no additional charge for the double encryption for Azure Synapse Analytics workspaces. It will be charged based on the type of Azure Key vault.

Azure Key Vaults are offered in two service tiers—standard and premium.

How am I billed for operations?

Operations against all keys (software-protected keys and HSM-protected keys), secrets and certificates are billed at a flat rate of $0.03 per 10,000 operations, except certificate renewal requests, which are billed at a rate of $3 per renewal. Examples—A) You perform 2,000 operations with HSM-protected keys, 1,000 operations with software-protected keys and 500 operations with secrets during a billing cycle. You will be billed for 3,500 operations during that billing cycle. B) In a given billing cycle, you perform 500 operations on 20 certificates and 2 of these certificates are also renewed by Key Vault. You will be billed for 500 operations and 2 certificate renewal requests.
