MS Access Lock file

Good day,
I have an Access 2016 database which is opened in Shared mode for multiple users.
Since 2 weeks ago, only 1 user can access the database at any given time as if the database is opened exclusive.

When I check the lock file ([Filename].lccdb), it is an empty file. Normally I would be able to see the user name and/or computer name that is accessing the database. I am also able to delete this file while I am in the database.

I have compacted the database, re-build the database from scratch, but to no avail.
NOTE: This only happens running the program (backend) from the server. If I copy the back end to my local disk, the lock file is generated correctly and more than 1 user can access the database.

Any suggestions?

Thanks
Deon

    Hi,

Since the bug has been introduced on December 14, there have been many discussions about it in every Access forum in the world. Just take a look here or elsewhere. The first reference you should read is the Microsoft support article.

    Hi Deon,

Also on other forums some people have posted that a fix doesn't work for them or the problem has come back with newer updates.
It's hard to tell what's happening in their system/installation as it's a complex issue due to Microsoft's jungle of variants.

So I repeat that without your current build number of Access and Office + possibly the update channel (i.e. variant), there is virtually nothing that can be said or reported to Microsoft.

    Hi Deon,

So, I think you have Office 2016 MSI with the updates of Jan 11 that fix only direct UNC paths.

Are you sure that the "one or two PCs" with problems are not using other types of network paths currently not yet fixed for 2016 MSI? In this case the problems should go away with the updates coming on Feb 1 according to the table in the bug support article. So, at least there would be some hope. ;-)
